How to Share Files Offline Without Internet — DocDrop P2P Guide

By DocFila Team · March 24, 2026 · 5 min read

You are in a meeting room whose Wi-Fi has no internet. At a conference with overloaded public networks. On a site where the router works but the uplink does not. And you need to send a document to the person next to you. Email will not work, and cloud sharing needs a connection. DocFila's DocDrop sends files directly between two devices on the same local network, so it works when that network has no internet.

What Is DocDrop?

DocDrop is DocFila's nearby file transfer. It opens a direct connection between two devices on the same local network and sends files over it — no cloud servers and no internet connection involved. It works between iPhone and Android, and the two people do not need to be in each other's contacts.

What You Need

Both devices must be on the same local network, for example the same Wi-Fi router. That network can be one without internet access. DocDrop finds the other device on the network automatically. This suits offices, homes, hotel rooms and conference centers. DocDrop does not create its own network: if there is no shared Wi-Fi network at all, it cannot connect the two devices. Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot and Bluetooth connection modes are not available in the released app.

Step-by-Step: Sharing Files With DocDrop

Step 1 — Open DocDrop on Both Devices

Open DocFila on the sending and the receiving device, join the same Wi-Fi network, and open DocDrop from the tools menu. On the receiving device, choose Receive nearby; it shows that it is ready to receive.

Step 2 — Pair the Devices

Pairing with a QR code is the safest way to connect: one device shows a code and the other scans it, and the code authenticates the other device. If you connect without the QR code, compare the confirmation code shown on both screens before you send — the app tells you when a connection is not verified.

Step 3 — Select Files and Send

On the sending device choose Send nearby, pick the receiving device from the list, and add the files or documents you want to share. The receiving device shows an incoming-transfer prompt and the files arrive once the person accepts. A single transfer can hold up to 2 GB and 500 files, and your plan's upload limit also applies.
