How to Sign a PDF on iPhone — Free
By DocFila Team · April 16, 2026 · 5 min read
You don't need DocuSign, a printer, or a scanner to sign a PDF on your iPhone. With DocFila you can draw, type, or stamp a saved signature on any PDF — and the result is a standard electronic signature under the US ESIGN Act and UETA, or a simple electronic signature (SES) under EU eIDAS. Here's how.
Are e-signatures legal?
In nearly every modern jurisdiction, an electronic signature cannot be denied legal effect purely because it's electronic — under the US ESIGN Act (2000) and UETA, the EU eIDAS Regulation, the UK Electronic Communications Act, and equivalent laws in Canada, Australia, India, and most of Asia. DocFila's signature is a standard electronic signature (not an advanced or qualified one), which is enough for most contracts. Some documents usually need something more — wills, some real-estate transfers, certain family-law documents, and other categories carved out by local law. This is general information, not legal advice; check local rules for your document.
Sign a PDF on iPhone with DocFila
- Open DocFila and tap the PDF you want to sign.
- Tap Sign.
- Draw your signature with your finger or Apple Pencil, type your name in a handwritten font, or insert your saved signature.
- Drag the signature onto the signature line. Resize with two fingers.
- Tap Save. The signature is embedded in the PDF — no overlay, no flattening tricks.
- Share via Mail, Messages, Drive, or send back through DocFila's e-sign request workflow for the other party.
Save your signature for one-tap signing
Tap Settings → Signatures and create a default signature with your name, initials, and (optionally) date stamp. Next time, signing a contract takes one tap.
Request signatures from other people
To send a contract to a counterparty, tap Sign → Request Signature, drop the signature fields where they should sign, and enter their email. They get a secure link, verify with an emailed one-time code, sign on any device, and you receive the signed PDF plus a Certificate of Completion and an audit trail (server timestamps, IP address, device/user agent).
Common questions
- Do I need to scan the document first? No — DocFila signs native PDFs directly. If you only have a paper copy, scan it with the in-app scanner first.
- Can I undo a signature? Yes, before saving. Once embedded, the signature is part of the document.
- Is the signature visible to everyone? Yes — embedded signatures display in any PDF reader (Preview, Adobe, Chrome).
