What RON is, which US states allow it, and what DocFila does and does not do for notarised documents.
Remote Online Notarization is a notarial act performed over a live audio-visual connection between the signer and a commissioned notary public. The notary verifies ID via knowledge-based authentication and credential analysis, witnesses the signature on screen, and applies an electronic notarial seal.
Most US states have permanently authorised RON post-2020 (NY, FL, TX, VA, OH, IL, AZ, NV, IA, KY, TN, ID, MN, OK, UT, WA, WV, MT, MI, NE, MO, ND, SD, IN, NM, MD, NJ, KS, AR, AL, LA, WI, NC, NH, DE, RI, CO, MS, OR, ME). California requires the signer to appear at a physical notary; Connecticut and South Carolina have narrower rules.
RON is recognised state-to-state under the Full Faith and Credit Clause, and most countries accept apostilled RON documents for international use. Check with the receiving jurisdiction first for high-stakes filings.
DocFila does not offer remote online notarization and does not connect you to notaries. When a document must be notarised, use a commissioned notary or a RON provider; a DocFila e-signature is not a notarisation. You can keep the finished, notarised PDF in DocFila with the rest of your records.
