How to Install DocFila on Linux — Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch & More

DocFila has a native Linux app. It is a .deb package for Ubuntu 24.04 or later (64-bit, x86-64) and for Debian-based distributions with the same libraries, and it installs with one apt command. On Fedora, Arch and other distributions, the DocFila web app installs as a desktop application through any Chromium-based browser instead: you get a .desktop entry in your application menu and GNOME / KDE / XFCE integration — without sudo, snap or flatpak.
What you'll need
- For the native app: Ubuntu 24.04 or later, 64-bit (x86-64), or a Debian-based distribution with the same libraries, and sudo rights to install a package.
- For the web app: any modern Linux distribution (Ubuntu 22.04+, Fedora 38+, Arch, Debian 12+, Pop!_OS, Manjaro, openSUSE and more) and Google Chrome, Chromium, Microsoft Edge, Brave, or Vivaldi. Firefox does not support installing web apps on Linux. No sudo or root: the app installs into your user directory only.
Method 1: Install the native .deb package (Ubuntu and Debian-based)
- Download the .deb from the Linux section of the desktop page (or docfila.com/download/linux). The page lists the version, the size and the SHA-256 checksum.
- Check the download: run
sha256sum ~/Downloads/DocFila-*.deband compare the result with the checksum on the desktop page. - Install it: run
sudo apt install ~/Downloads/DocFila-*.deb. apt also installs the libraries DocFila depends on. - Open DocFila from your application menu, or run
docfilain a terminal, and sign in with your DocFila account.
Method 2: Install the web app from a Chromium browser
- Open www.docfila.com in Chrome, Chromium, Edge, Brave or Vivaldi.
- Look at the right side of the address bar for the install icon (a small monitor with a down arrow).
- Click it, then click Install in the popup.
- DocFila launches in its own window, and a .desktop entry appears in your application menu so you can launch it like any other app.
Distro-specific notes for the web app
Ubuntu / Pop!_OS / Mint: use Chromium from the official Snap or apt repository, or install Google Chrome from google.com/chrome. After install, DocFila appears in the GNOME Activities overview.
Fedora: use Chromium from RPM Fusion or install Chrome from the official RPM.
Arch / Manjaro: sudo pacman -S chromium, then follow the steps above. The .desktop entry lands in ~/.local/share/applications/.
Wayland and multi-monitor
The installed web app runs on Wayland and Xorg, and multi-monitor and HiDPI scaling work because the host browser handles them. The web app needs a network connection to open and view your documents. The native package opens files that already sit on your device without a connection; signing in and syncing with your other devices still need one. See the desktop download page for the Linux, macOS and Windows apps.
Uninstalling
Native package: run sudo apt remove docfila. Web app: from the running app, open the window menu (the three dots) and choose Uninstall DocFila. Or remove the .desktop entry by hand — find it with ls ~/.local/share/applications/ | grep -i docfila and delete that file.
