How to Scan an ID Card to PDF (Front and Back, Same Page)
By DocFila Team · April 30, 2026 · 4 min read
Banks, landlords, and HR departments routinely ask for "both sides of your ID, on one page". Doing this manually with a scanner is fiddly. DocFila's ID Card scan mode captures both sides of a card and saves them as one PDF.
Scan both sides in one go
- Open DocFila → Scan → ID Card.
- Place the front of the card on a flat, contrasting surface. The app auto-captures.
- Flip the card to the back. The app captures and combines both onto one page.
- Tap Save as PDF. Send via email or upload to any portal.
Why ID Card mode is different from Document mode
Standard scanning treats each capture as a full page. ID Card mode is tuned for card-size documents: it detects the card, straightens it, and puts both sides together, which is what most institutions ask for. Check the result before you send it.
Privacy: keep IDs in the vault
Save scanned IDs to the DocFila Vault, which is behind a PIN and biometric lock. A Standard vault item is stored in DocFila's cloud storage on Google Cloud, which encrypts it at rest; mark the item Encrypted and it is encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM first, with a key DocFila's servers never receive. Share a document with a link that has a permission, an optional expiry and a password, and revoke it when you are done.
Works for any wallet card
Driver's license, national ID, insurance card, transit card, library card, business card, vaccine card. Use Business Card mode to extract contacts straight to your phonebook.
