How to Add Page Numbers to a PDF (Free)

By DocFila Team · April 29, 2026 · 3 min read

Long PDFs without page numbers are hard to refer to in print, in a review, or in any meeting that lasts more than 5 minutes. Add them with DocFila — free, on your device, and saved into the file.

Add page numbers in DocFila

Open the PDF and go to PDF Tools → Page Numbers. Pick the position (top or bottom; left, centre or right), the start number and the format, such as Page {n} or Page {n} of {total}, then set the size and colour. Tap Apply.

Pro tips

Use Page {n} of {total} for contracts and reports, where readers need to know nothing is missing. If the cover page should not be numbered, set the start number to match the page it begins on. Match the document's look by choosing a size close to the body text.

Add a header or footer too

DocFila can also add repeating header or footer text, such as a document title or a version, from the Edit tools. That is a separate step from page numbers.
