Fax machines feel like a relic of the 1990s, yet fax is still used in healthcare, legal, government, and financial services, and some offices still ask for faxed documents rather than email. You do not need a physical fax machine to send one, but you do need a fax service. DocFila does not send faxes. What it does is get the document ready: it scans paper, cleans it up, adds a signature and compresses the file, so the PDF you hand to a fax service is clear and small.
Some organizations — medical offices, courts, tax and licensing authorities, banks and insurers — still list fax as an accepted or preferred channel, and fax gives you a transmission report from the sending service. Check with the recipient what they accept. If the document contains health information, ask the fax service whether it supports your regulatory requirements; DocFila does not claim HIPAA compliance and should not be treated as a HIPAA-covered tool.
Scan a paper document with DocFila's document scanner on your phone, or import a PDF or image you already have.
Large files can time out at a fax service. Use DocFila's PDF compression tool if you need to reduce the size, and check that small text is still readable afterwards.
Upload the PDF to the fax service of your choice, or to a fax-capable printer or machine. Enter the recipient's number with the country code (for example +1 for the United States or +44 for the United Kingdom), and double-check it — a wrong digit sends your document to the wrong recipient. Add a cover page in the fax service if the office has several people sharing one machine, and keep the transmission report for your records.
DocFila scans, cleans up, signs and compresses the document; send it with the fax service of your choice.
