How to Create a Professional Invoice for Free (Template + Guide)

Whether you freelance, run a small business, or just need to bill a client once, a clean, professional invoice makes it easy for the client to pay. What every invoice must include

• The word "Invoice" at the top (sounds obvious — required for legal compliance in many countries).
• A unique invoice number (e.g. INV-2026-014).
• Issue date and due date.
• Your name / business / address / tax ID.
• Client's name / business / address.
• Itemised line items with quantity, rate, total.
• Subtotal, tax (VAT/GST/sales tax), total due.
• Payment terms (e.g. "Net 30") and payment methods.
