Forgot the tape measure? DocFila's Measure tool can estimate the straight-line distance between two points on an object, using a reference object of known size in the same picture. It is a quick check, not a replacement for a tape measure when an error would be costly.
Measure does not use augmented reality or depth sensors such as LiDAR. It works from a flat camera view or a photo: you mark a reference object whose size is known (a credit card, an A4 or US Letter sheet, or a US quarter), and DocFila works out the scale from it. You then tap the two ends of the object you want to measure, and DocFila shows the distance between them. Until you calibrate against a reference object, no length is shown.
Because the scale comes from the reference, a measurement is only valid for things in the same plane as the reference and at about the same distance from the camera. DocFila does not state an accuracy figure; how close the result is depends on how precisely you mark the reference and the object, and on the camera angle.
Camera Measure uses the live camera on your phone. Photo Measure works on a photo from your gallery that already contains a reference object. Camera Measure runs on phones; Photo Measure is also available elsewhere in the app.
Measure does not make floor plans or room dimensions, and it does not calculate areas, volumes or heights. It measures straight distances between two points you mark. For anything where an error is costly — furniture purchases, construction materials, shipping dimensions — use a tape measure.
Measure the length of an object from the camera view or a photo with a reference object of known size.
