How to Add a Watermark to a PDF (Free)
By DocFila Team · April 23, 2026 · 4 min read
Watermarks signal the status of a document at a glance — Confidential, Draft, Internal, Approved — and discourage unauthorised redistribution. DocFila adds text or image watermarks to a PDF on your device, free.
Text vs image watermarks
Text watermarks ("Confidential", "Draft", a date) are lightweight and edit-friendly. Image watermarks (your logo or a seal) carry more visual weight. DocFila supports a text watermark or an image watermark.
Add a watermark in DocFila
Open the PDF and tap PDF Tools → Watermark. Pick Text or Image. For text, type the words and set the opacity and rotation; for an image, pick your logo. The watermark is applied to every page, and the opacity is kept light so the page stays readable. Tap Apply and save the watermarked PDF.
Tips for a good watermark
Keep the wording short and the opacity low. Confidential and Draft work well as diagonal text across the page, and a logo works well when it is small enough not to compete with the content.
Remove an existing watermark
DocFila does not remove watermarks. If you need to remove a watermark from a PDF you legally own (for example an old draft you want to reuse), go back to the document it was made from and export it again without the watermark.
